Florida police are searching for four men who stole more than $4,000 worth of diesel from the Island Food Store gas station.
According to the service station manager, the four parked their truck beside pump 4 and paid $20. The screen showed only $5 worth of diesel was pumped out, but actually 926 gallons were transferred. At $4.50 per gallon, the fuel would have cost over $4,000.
The four even waited for an hour at the service station, unknown to the manager that they had sucked the contents of the pump. No one in the gas station could explain why the four men went unnoticed.
According to the police they have some of the fingerprints on the pump and will review the surveillance video from inside the store to identify the gas thieves.
Meanwhile, in Boston, a delivery truck spilled 400 gallons of heating oil Thursday morning after it fell on its side as it swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle on Route 24 in Avon.
The accident happened before 5 a.m. near Exit 19. It resulted to two other collisions, although no one was seriously injured, according to Sgt. Timothy Finn of the Massachusetts Police Department. The truck driver sustained only minor wounds.
The series of collisions caused a gridlock. The oil spill is still being cleaned up, while the police is still investigating the incident.
