In a bid to show its support for the troops, a formalwear store in the Pittsburgh suburb of Pine Township, gave away more than 100 brand new wedding gowns to women with military experience or those who are engaged to past or present servicemen. Most of the giveaway gowns originally carried the retail price of between $500 and $2,000, but one dress was reportedly listed for $5,850.
Rosalind Ramos-Alvarez, a veteran for 21 years, heard about the giveaway on the radio and showed up at the store on Friday, selecting two gowns to try on.
"This is just fantastic," Ramos-Alvarez told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Pete Scolieri, who owns the store, named One Enchanted Evening with his wife, Linda, said they decided on the donation after hearing of similar giveaways by other shops elsewhere in the country.
"It's just a matter of hey, these guys are over there, whether they want to or not, whether they believe in the cause or not. So how can we give something to them?" he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
