Michigan Court Sentences 'Joker' To 1 Day In Jail

He was not laughing and the court was not joking when the St. Joseph County District Court on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year-old man posing as the 'Joker' to one day in jail and 16 hours of community service, after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of malicious destruction of property. Spencer Taylor was charged with trying to steal a poster of the Batman movie "The Dark Knight," at a movie theater lobby on July 27. At the time Taylor was dressed as the "Joker" character, the main villain in the latest installment of the Batman franchise.

Picasso's 'Sylvette' Sells For $6.9M In Sydney Auction

A 1954 masterpiece from Pablo Picasso broke auction records in Australia when it sold for $6. 9 million. "Sylvette 1954" was auctioned off at Deutscher-Menzies Galleries in Kensington on Wednesday. Gallery art head Tim Abdullah had predicted the painting would fetch between $5 and $ 7 million.

Amazonian Indians Attack Electric Company Worker

A group of Amazonian Indians, donning feathers and face paint, attacked a representative from Brazil's National Electric Company after he made a presentation explaining the effects a proposed hydroelectric dam would have on traditional communities living in the remote region near the Xingu River. The Associated Press reported that Eletrobras engineer Paulo Fernando Rezende sustained a large gash on his shoulder, but insisted he was okay, after the angry group of Kayapo Indians surrounded him wielding machetes and clubs.

London Bridge Isn't Falling Down, It's Just Getting A Facelift

Its paint may be chipping off, but the famous London Tower Bridge is not falling down - it's merely getting an $8 million facelift. The British landmark, made famous by the nursery rhyme, "London Bridge Is Falling Down," will be stripped of its old paint and repainted in its traditional blue and white. The facelift will take over four years, according to the plan. Work on the landmark bridge will begin in June and will be completed in the winter of 2010. However, the bridge will remain open to traffic during the renovation.

NY Town Deliberating On Possible Silly String Ban

A New York town is reportedly considering banning the use of Silly String anywhere within 1,500 feet of a public celebration. The proposal to cut the use of the popular party product was made based on concerns from the local fire department, which claimed that the aerosol string sprayed from the canister has been causing damage to fire equipments' paint and weather stripping.
