In an attempt to set up a drug deal, two suspected thieves mistakenly telephoned police at 3 a.m. on Tuesday, thus ending up in jail. The dopes, Paul White, 38, and Ryan Ogle, 25 were arrested after they dialed the emergency number 911 instead of their drug dealer's.

Pomona police immediately traced the call and asked a patrol officer to check on them. The men were found standing beside a car which had been reported as stolen.

AP quotes Sgt. Michael Olivieri as saying, "No one said criminals are smart." Upon interviewing, the two men admitted that they were in a hurry for dope and thus committed the mistake of dialing 911.

Police arrested the two for investigation of auto theft, possession of burglary tools, destruction of evidence and parole violation.
