Two lesser pandas at a zoo in Kawasaki have drawn and fascinated visitors with their frequent daily mouth-to-mouth kissing.

According to the Kyodo News the two pandas, both named Yuyu, were at first seen with the already-unusual habit of displaying behaviors similar to kissing on a regular basis early this year. A more astonishing development took place after the pandas have suddenly been seen engaging in such act several times in one day in their habitat at the Kawasaki Yumemigasaki Zoological Park.

Another very notable fact regarding the kissing pandas is that, with one being a 14-year old male and the other being a 12-year old female, have proven their mating attempts unsuccessful, despite living together for 8 years.

This overwhelms and fascinates zoo officials, as they witness the two pandas showing what may only be understood as ardent public affection, reportedly for up to one hour, twice a day.

"They have got on together well for years," zoo director Minor Nagasawa said, as quoted by Orange. "So the fact that they are kissing frequently even though their mating season is over, we have to assume that it comes from a love that has grown between them."

This behavior seems to go against the usually solitary behaviors of lesser pandas, known only to socialize during breeding seasons.
