French and Chinese paleontologists have discovered what is thought to be the only fossil of a two-headed reptile on record. The animal belonged to a group of aquatic reptiles and lived in what is now China nearly 150 million years ago. The fossil, which measures seven centimeters long, was found in northeastern China in an area where remains of early birds and feathered dinosaurs were found in the past. It is an embryonic or newborn reptile that had two necks and two heads and would have grown to about 3. 25 feet in adulthood. The reptile was a choristoderan, which seem to have been common aquatic reptiles during the Cretaceous Period (144 to 65 million years ago).
