A 53-year-old woman who was driving her dead mother across country to save on mortuary transportation costs was fined by police for disturbing a dead person's peace, says Reuters. "You're not allowed to transport dead people in your private car," said Ralf Schomisch, police spokesman in Koblenz, where the car was found after a tip-off from a mortuary.

"Big Brother" is watching. According to the "Palm Beach Post" newspaper, a local police agency in South Florida was most likely the authority who first mistook the e-mail sent by a member of a Lake Worth area group, The Truth Project, to the Pentagon as a possible terrorist suspect. The anti-terror program of the Pentagon checked out the group and the source of the e-mail, and has since apologized to the group. Specifics of the e-mail letter were not revealed to the media.
