Police arrested a Buddhist monk Wednesday for growing marijuana near the Eikoji shrine in Japan. Michimaru Obara, 48, is suspected of growing approximately 5. 3 pounds of marijuana, according to a police official who declined to be named, citing policy.

Attorney General Mike Cox announced on Tuesday that a former state Department employee Sandra May Wentworth pled guilty to 3 counts of embezzlement for embezzling more than $300,000 from the department of Veterans Affairs. In September 2005, Cox also charged Wentworth's husband and son on related tax fraud charges. Cox says, "Sandra Wentworth admitted to stealing more than $300,000 from the State of Michigan, money that taxpayers intended to pay for services for our veterans. "

A Sri Lankan presidential candidate promises to use his personal fortune to give a cow to every home if he his elected. "Every Sri Lankan home will be gifted with a high milk-yielding cow from (the Indian state of) Kerala which could be expected to yield 10 liters (2. 5 gallons) to 16 liters (four gallons) of milk every day," Victor Hettigoda is quoted as saying by The Island
