Political Activist and Actor Sean Penn made his way down to the city of New Orleans with a personal photographer and an entourage in an attempt to help victims stranded by floods caused by Hurricane Katrina. Penn had planned to rescue children and adults in the flood waters, but apparently forgot to plug a hole in the bottom of the vessel, which began taking water within seconds of its launch.

A Hollywood producer apparently suffered a fatal heart attack before falling on top of his daughter and suffocating her to death, according to a coroner's report. The body of Terry Carr, 62, toppled onto his 9-year-old daughter as she slept in the cargo area of their SUV, leaving her unable to escape or breathe, according to Lake County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Russ Perdock. Carr and his daughter, Arieka, were found August 1, The Associated Press reports.

The Washington Post reports a former Army National Guard reservist is sentenced to eight years in prison after he admits to stealing nearly 1,000 suitcases from Washington-area airports. The report indicates Derrick Kysar was assigned to guard Reagan National Airport following the Sept. 11 terrorist attack. During that time, he stole $2 million worth of medicine, clothing and other personal items.

Thierry Bellisha, 32, and two colleagues unloaded all of their suitcases from Hossam Abdalla's taxi at LaGuardia Airport. All except one. The co-owner of Montreal-based Crown Ring immediately looked up but it was too late - Abdalla had already sped off, unaware he still had a suitcase worth several hundred thousand dollars in the trunk of his yellow cab, according to the Canadian Press.
