Television host Jeremy Clarkson has no one to blame but himself for losing money after publishing his bank account details in his newspaper column. Clarkson, who hosts the show "Top Gear," revealed his account numbers as he tried to downplay an incident involving the loss of 25 million people's personal details on two computer discs. But apparently, he was proven wrong after he discovered someone, who presumably read his column, used the details to charge a $986 donation to the charity Diabetes U. K. against his account just days after he published the details of his account at Barclays in his column at The Sun

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill on Wednesday merging two separate state departments into a new agency to combat high-tech identity theft. The California Office of Information Security and Privacy Protection was created to assist consumers, law enforcement, businesses and advocacy groups in compliance with consumer privacy laws. It combines the Office of Privacy Protection in the Department of Consumer Affairs with the state Information Security Office.

Beginning January 2, the city of Reeves, Louisiana will no longer carry the mark of the beast. After 40 years of carrying a stigma for having the number 666 as its area code, Reeves starts 2008 with a new code; 749. Mayor Scott Walker made changing the city's area code a personal crusade after he got tired of receiving admonitions from friends and strangers to drop the number linked to the Devil. He made representations with the local phone company CenturyTel and the state Public Service Commission to amend the city's area code.

Police and customs agents in Salt Lake County, Utah on Thursday announced they confiscated 431 pounds of an African drug called khat. According to the Salt Lake Tribune, authorities said they arrested two men connected to the contraband, which consisted of leaves packed in plastic bags. The two men will face federal smuggling charges.

The FBI and local law enforcement are spreading the word that a "jury duty" scam is spreading across the nation. The FBI and the federal court system have also issued nationwide alerts, warning people about this scam.
