Airport police are investigation how a man from Lima, Peru, boarded a flight to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Tuesday with a small monkey hidden under his hat.
The monkey, now nicknamed named "Spirit," could have easily gone unnoticed if he hadn't popped out of his owner's head and spotted by the other passengers in the plane.
After being spotted in the airplane, the marmoset, which normally lives in forests and eats fruit and insects, spent the remainder of the flight in the man's seat and behaved well.
AP reports that the man, whose identity was not yet released, was immediately taken away for questioning when his flight landed. It is not clear if he might face any criminal charges.
As a part of precautionary measure, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to take the animal for disease testing and keep it quarantined for 31 days. However, the smuggled monkey will end up in a local zoo after his health check-up.
