Doctors said Friday a Peruvian woman has given birth to a boy they have dubbed the "lobster baby" because of a rare condition known as arthrogryposis, or curvature of the joints, in which his arms and legs are deformed and wrapped around his body, like claws.

Moises Chavez is one of the only babies worldwide born with all four limbs affected. The one-month-old was born in Peru's central Andes and brought to Lima this week.

The curvature of the joints, known as arthtogryposis, is found in one limb in about 1 in every 3,000 births in the U.S.

Dr. Luis Rubio, who will lead the boy's treatment told Reuters

Moises' brain does not seem to have been affected, but his leg bones are bent at a 90-degree angle from his body; his hands are tilted outward, with his elbows hugging his chest.

Moises' grandfather has said his son refuses to recognize the baby, stating he's horrified and claims its not his son.

Funding for the treatment may come from the Lima town hall and could last several years.

Rubio is also treating Milagros Cerron, dubbed the "Little Mermaid," after having been born with her legs fused together. She is one in a only a handful of babies born with the disease that has lived more than a few hours.
