Mom Gives Birth To Girl With Two Heads
A baby girl with two heads was born Tuesday in a hospital in Manila, Philippines. Doctors said Wednesday the newborn was in stable condition but may not likely survive. A 28-year-old mother delivered the baby by cesarean section at the Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital. The baby was later transferred to the Philippine Heart Center because of a heart defect.
Philippine Fishermen Cook, Eat Caught Rare Shark
Fishermen in central Philippines have cooked and eaten a megamouth shark they caught not knowing it was a very rare fish, according to the World Wildlife Fund-Philippines. The four-meter-long, 500-kilogram shark was caught on March 30 along the eastern coast of Burias Island, the conservation group said Tuesday, according to the Philstar.com. The group said it will launch a campaign to educate locals on the rare species as the area may yield more megamouth sharks aside from whale sharks, dolphins and giant manta rays.
Priest-Turned Politician To Prosecute Philippine President If Elected
A Catholic priest who won a seat as governor in the last 2007 elections, on Sunday had pledged to prosecute current Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for corruption and plunder if he himself was elected president next year. Gov. Ed Panlilio, who made history for beating well-entrenched and moneyed politicians in the home province of Arroyo, made the statement after emerging from a meeting with supporters, mostly businessmen, civic leaders and labor groups, which are pushing his bid for the presidency in the next 2010 elections.
Korean Student's Suicide Bid 'Failed' After Fire Alarm Set Off
A fire alarm system that accidentally set off 'saved' the life of a 20-year-old Korean student in northern Philippines in her suicide bid after flunking in class. Police reports said the student, a first-year student taking up Bachelor of Arts at a university in Baguio City, became upset when she failed a course.
Philippines Launch Cops In G-Strings To Assist Tourists
The Philippine National Police on Sunday launched its "Bahag-Pulis" (cops in G-String), during the celebration of the Panagbenga (Flower) Festival in Baguio City, the summer capital of the Philippines, north of the capital Manila. The monthly celebration, capped by a street dances of people donned in colorful costumes and floats in Baguio City, was attended by an estimated 150,000 cheering local and foreign tourists.
