Traditionally the number 6 is lucky for some in China, but not for one Chinese businessman who was almost driven mad after purchasing a phone number he believed it would bring him luck.

According to reports the man, named Lui, paid a total amount of 10,00 yuan ($1,300) for the phone number 66-666-666 which he purchased from one of his friends last year .

Lui believe that the phone number would bring him luck. However he wasn't so lucky.

The China Daily says the man received some 100 calls a day from strangers wanting to know if the number really existed or to ask for money believing that those who can purchase such "auspicious" phone numbers are truly wealthy.

Lui describes his experience as a nightmare, the report said.

Apparently the Chinese pronounce the number 6 as "liu", sounding like "flowing", "smooth" or "slippery" which also means "everything goes smoothly".

The number 6 is also considered a very lucky number in the Chinese culture.

Lui now hopes that he can get out of the troubles by selling the number to someone else.
