A couple who decided to pick up the roadside trash because they grew tired of seeing it lying there for long time, found a winning scratch-off lottery ticket.

The Clinton County couple, Ronnie and Tina Abbott, found the lottery ticket worth only $15 on Sunday while picking up garbage near Frankfort, about 55 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

However, the couple was really happy the next day when they cashed in that ticket at a local store and bought one that made them a $1,000 winner. AP quotes Tina Abbot as saying, "It does pay to pick up trash."

According to media reports, the couple has also found other interesting items in the trash including three unopened cans of Billy Beer, a failed brand endorsed by former President Jimmy Carter's late brother, Billy Carter.
