A Chinese museum bought a pig for $438 after the animal was discovered in the rubble of a collapsed pig farm a full 36 days after a devastating earthquake struck the region. According to the Shanghai Daily newspaper, a local museum bought the pig and named it Mr. Strongwill. The pig was raised outside the city of Chengdu. He will live out the rest of his days at the Jianchuan Museum. Soldiers found the pig alive on June 17. It had lost nearly 100 kilograms and surprised vets, who previously thought that pigs could not live for more than five days without food and water. Wan Xinming, who raised the pig before the quake, said it used to consume 30 kilograms of food and water a day. Veterinarians said that the pig probably survived by eating charcoal and was lucky to be in a small space where it couldn't move, as that allowed it to conserve energy. |
