small, single propeller airplane was forced to make in emergency landing on a street in northern Scottsdale due to mechanical problems with the aircraft.

Motorists were in for a surprise when the airplane landed on Lone Mountain Road in northern Scottsdale, chosen by the 35-year-old pilot for its lack of traffic and remote location, when he and his 19-year-old student co-pilot were forced to land unexpectedly.

There were no injuries reported from the surprise roadside landing, with the only damage coming from the plane's wing clipping a speed sing limit along the lightly traveled street.

The plane, which was forced to land due to mechanical problems, caused quite a stir for the few motorists who happened to be traveling in the area.

"There's a lot of people just stopping and taking photographs," Officer Dave Pubins, a Scottsdale police spokesman said. "It's unique to have an airplane on the roadway."

The Federal Aviation Administration arrived on the scene around 3 p.m. to investigate the incident and clear the aircraft from the area.
