Faulty circuitry prevented the explosion of 18 planted bombs found on Tuesday in different areas of the port city of Surat in western India's Gujarat state.

Forensic experts who examined the bombs found technically flawed integrated circuits in the bomb devices. It was the first time that a semiconductor was used in bombs, the experts said, according to the Times of India.

Police found and defused the 18 bombs three days after a series of explosions rocked Surat's commercial center of Ahmedabad, killing 53 people and injuring more than 200 others. The bombs were planted in traffic circles, a market, a flyover, and a tree in the Varacha area, where many diamond polishing shops are located.

Police defused the bombs, preventing casualties.

Meanwhile, four suspects in the Ahmedabad blasts were detained Tuesday. The men, from Maharashtra, were arrested for carrying maps of various cities of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Punjab states, the police chief of Surendranagar district said.
