Scientists say by keeping carbon in their fields through no-till farming practices, farmers can help countries meet targeted reductions in atmospheric carbon dioxide and reduce the harmful effects of global warming. Researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee say, "Our research focuses on the feasibility of different sequestration schemes for reducing natural emissions of carbon dioxide or enhancing the natural uptake of atmospheric carbon dioxide. "

Authorities say a 16-year-old student bit into a razor blade while eating a chicken sandwich he purchased at his high school. The Flagler County Sheriff's Office says Craig Beat was not injured when he discovered the blade in his chicken patty Sept. 21.

Dwayne Earl Anthony Etzel was arrested on drug possession charges after a police officer caught him pedaling on a bicycle with three uprooted marijuana plants under his arm. Police spotted Etzel, 18, biking in the early evening Monday with what is described as a "big smile" on his face.

Thieves stealing mud that contains traces of gold, silver and platinum are overrunning Serbia's once mighty Bor mining and smelting complex, a Belgrade newspaper reports. Bor police have filed charges against persons unknown for the theft of about 700 kilograms (1550 pounds) of valuable anode mud from the bankrupt, state-owned company in southern Serbia, Danas says in its weekend edition.

A booming real estate market has Canadian marijuana growers looking toward cheaper land in northern Ontario as a way to cut down on costs. In the past two weeks, police say they have made two massive pot busts in sparsely populated towns in northern Ontario, a region better known for its mining, timber and paper mills.
