Yukon, the 16-year-old polar bear, had a tooth pulled Thursday at The Seneca Park Zoo.
Veterinarians used a hammer and chisel to remove an infected tooth they believe has given the bear a bad case of bad breath.
The 805-pounder was sedated during the hour-long procedure, remaining perfectly still on the examination table, sighing occasionally.
Jeff Wyatt, the zoo's director of Animal Health and Conservation told the AP, "You can just enter his den and you can smell it. It's kinda funky." He added the problem is common in older bears.
Zoo officials say Yukon is expected to make a full recovery within a few weeks.
