A suspicious package at a post office next to the Smithsonian's National Postal Museum turned out to be a false alarm.

The police called for the evacuation of the site for several hours after a postal worker noted a foul smelling package that no one came to claim. The package also did not have any postage or address.

District of Columbia police bomb technicians scanned the package and a hazardous materials team inspected it only to find out that it contained two cans of spinach and a dirty diaper.

AP quotes Deborah Yackley, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Service as saying, "No wonder it smelled. I don't know why it was being mailed."
