Police have detained players believing an amateur rugby match was a street fight.

Police in Rostov-on-Don received a report of a fight at an empty sports field, and accidentally arrested almost 100 players and fans.

According to Russian news agency, RIA, when police realized the error, everyone was let go, without charges.

Police say that since they weren't told about the match ahead of time, they were right to storm the field with over 73 officers.
