A police officer saved a post office from an armed robbery on May 20th in Cairo, a local Egyptian newspaper reported. The assault happened during the period of the month when retirement checks are sent out.

Many seniors were waiting for their checks when a woman started a fight and three other men and a woman joined her, calming to be her family members. Two of them tried to sneak into the post office employee's desks when a police officer noticed the thieves and closed the gates from within, cornering the culprits inside.

However, all five robbers managed to escape.

A report was issued in a nearby police station where some of the witnesses identified one of the women from the attempted heist from pictures shown to them by the police.

The search continues for the attempted robbers, as the lack of organized security in banks and post offices remain a problem in Cairo, nonetheless, armed robbery is considered rare.
