A South Carolina principal was charged with hindering a police investigation after she allegedly told a cheerleading squad not to talk to police.

Police were investigating a cheerleading coach who was accused of giving the girls alcohol. Coach Jill Moore was arrested last week and has since resigned from the position.

Chief Deputy Mike Frederick said police intended to interview each girl. He said Blackwell met with the girls asking them not to talk to police. He said he suspects that Blackwell knew Moore was giving the girls alcohol.

He said, "It became quite clear to investigators who was attempting to keep this thing quiet."

Blackwell, 59, also punished one student for leaking information about the Moore case to the media.

She faces charges of obstruction of justice.
