Many restaurants have a policy of giving police officers free cups of coffee or discounted food but a Chicago police officer was suspended for 18 months and recommended for counseling after she demanded free coffee and pastries from area Starbucks. Most police departments have unwritten rules against officers either accepting or demanding anything free, although those rules generally aren't enforced. Many restaurants feel it enhances safety to have police officers stop in for coffee, a snack or a meal. But officers traditionally offer to pay before a restaurant tells them it's on the house or discounted.

Almost all of Ottawa City's 1,100 taxicabs have complied with a law mandating the installation of video cameras in their vehicles. The goal of the requirement is to assist police in criminal investigations of crimes in taxicabs. However, a technical glitch needs to be addressed. The city police do not have the software to allow them to view the videos.

"Please kill me. " These were the only words muttered in court Tuesday by the man who stabbed to death a bus passenger in Manitoba before beheading the victim and eating his flesh. Vince Weiguang Li uttered the words after shaking his head in response to a judge's question if he wanted an attorney. The judge ordered another hearing on Friday.

A 21-year-old man went into a shock and was rushed to the hospital after allegedly having an argument with a parking enforcement officer. CTV reported that police saw a parking enforcement officer involved in a confrontation with a man parked on Sackville Street in the Dundas Street East and Parliament Street .

Forensic examination of the bones contained in an athletic shoe found Friday on a beach near here indicate it is from a human foot. Police in Clallam County announced the finding by the King County Medical Examiner on Monday. However, forensic experts are not sure if the foot belongs to a man or a woman.
