On Saturday, Poland's Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski called a news briefing in a Warsaw park to urge the citizens of the country to feed ducks with the approach of winter.
The PM was expected to make an announcement on the future of the ruling coalition government, instead he presented a yellow duck as the campaign mascot of his Law and Justice(PiS) party ahead of November's local elections.
Reuters quotes Kaczynski as saying, "An example of the brutalization of Polish public life is the billboard of the (post-communist) Democratic Left Alliance announcing duck-hunting season."
"But we love all animals including ducks and we have a different appeal: let's feed the ducks because a difficult period is beginning," said the prime minister.
After breaking with its coalition partner Self-Defense over budget rows, PiS is seeking to put together a new parliamentary majority. It also seeks to send more troops to Afghanistan. If the country fails to do so, it could mean earlier parliamentary elections, possibly in late November.
