Pope Benedict XVI continues to attempt to reach the younger Catholics through the launch of the Vatican channel on YouTube. Expected to be viewed are video and audio footage of the pontiff's speeches and news about the Catholic world.

The seat of the Catholic Church has been increasing its use of information technology to spread its message to young people since traditional ways like the pulpit and the Sacraments have been less attractive to Catholic youths.

The Vatican already has a website running for about a decade and sends Biblical quotes and other inspirational messages by SMS. Recently it endorsed Christian prayers through the iBreviary, an iTunes application designed by Italian priest Fr. Paolo Padrini and an Italian web designer.

The Pope will launch its YouTube channel on Friday. The messages will be in Italian, German, English and Spanish languages.
