A 67-year-old pilot went from a bad situation to a foul one Friday when his plane crashed into a lot full of portable toilets.

The man had just taken off from Pierce County-Thun Field airport here when the single-engine of his Cessna stopped running at about 150 feet elevation, sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer told the Tacoma News Tribune.

The pilot attempted to return to the airport but came up short, the spokesman said. The plane struck a fence, flipped over, and landed upside down on a group of portable potties stored in a lot just northwest of the runway.

If the plane had not crashed there, it might have ended up on a nearby mobile home, Pierce County authorities told a local television station.

The pilot, who was not identified, was not injured.
