A 12-year-old girl was stung by a scorpion at a Wal-Mart store on Sunday while trying to pick out a watermelon from a bin. The scorpion was around an inch long and must have got caught in the shipment from Mexico.
The girl, Megan Templeton, was taken to the hospital immediately and made a full recovery.
Megan later said that the sting was more painful than a bee sting but less than a staple in the finger.
Employees at the store later captured the scorpion.
The store authorities expressed their dismay at the incident. Richard Coyle, senior director of international affairs for Wal-Mart said that the incident was a rare one.
He also said that all future watermelon shipments from Mexico will be "double checked" for safety.
