After someone stole 250 pounds of fireworks, a North Carolina town lost its bang from Independence Day. Garland Norton, mayor of Old Fort, said, "It's kind of disheartening that someone would do that, and they did it at the last minute, so we couldn't get any to replace them. So we had to cancel it. "

On the Fourth of July, America's hope for recapturing the championship for hot dog eating from Takeru Kobayashi of Japan will take place at the annual Coney Island hot dog eating competition. According to press reports, California native Joey Chestnut aims to inhale more than four dozen hot dogs in 12 minutes at the competition.

A federal jury found a man accused of interrupting a flight crew and threatening to kill a baby not guilty on Friday. Attorneys for Sanitago Lol Tizol, a 37 year old spanish-speaking man, said he was simply misunderstood by cramped and jumpy passengers on a flight leaving Los Angeles and destined for Honolulu on December 9.
