The crew of the HMS Iron Duke, the ship Prince William is training on, seized nearly a ton of cocaine Saturday.

The HMS Iron Duke stopped a 50-foot speedboat which the Iron Duke's crew spotted hundreds of miles northeast of Barbados. The sighting raised suspicions because it is unusual to see such a small vessel so far out at sea.

Upon inspecting the boat, the United States Coast Guard, who are patrolling with the British Navy to police drug trafficking, found 45 bales of cocaine weighing 1,980 pounds. The estimated street value of the drugs is $80 million.

Prince William, called, Sub-Lieutenant Wales while under Navy training, is spending five weeks at sea with the British Navy as one step to familiarizing himself with all the branches of the military to prepare for his eventual ascendance as the head of military forces.

A Ministry of Defense official told the London Times that all the crew aboard the HMS Iron Duke helped with the seizure, although he did not specify the Prince's role.

The five men found on board the speedboat have all been detained, and the boat was sunk. Reports say the drugs seemed to be headed to Europe or West Africa.
