Parents are spending superfluous amounts on parties for their children, from paying for limousine services that deliver friends to the child's party to holding private parties at expensive stores. According to Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg's article, "The Importance of Play," which was published by the American Academy of Pediatrics, "Children don't need toys that do everything for them and it is much better to get back to the basics and to have parents engaged with their children. "

A bidder has paid $30,000 to win a lunch date with actress Jessica Biel, recently named Esquire magazine's "Sexiest Woman Alive. " The date was auctioned to raise money for a Colorado teen who lost her leg and part of her pelvis in an accident. Molly Bloom was run over by a Hummer stretch limousine on the night of her prom. The money will be used to pay for Bloom's medical expenses. A man identified as "John" made the $30,000 bid for a date with Biel, who is a Boulder native. "John" says he is a senior vice president for an oil and gas company in Denver. Biel, 24, says in a taped message, "I promise, I'm a cheap date. " Her father says the lunch date was the actress' idea.

Thousands of "superheroes" have gathered for the four-day Comic-Con International being held at the San Diego Convention Center. Comic-Con is the nation's largest celebration of comic books and pop culture. The convention, which started Thursday, attracted Storm Troopers, Flash Gordon, Batmen, Spider-Men and even characters from toy makers. One photographer was seen wearing a Wonder Woman costume.
