In a bid to pay tribute to all the dogs that helped to search wreckage at Ground Zero after the bombing of the nation's financial center in 2001, a nonprofit organization is selling Sept. 11 search-and-rescue puppy dolls. The Tribute Center situated near the World Trade Center site in New York is selling these stuffed toys for $11. 95.

A pit bull puppy reportedly trying to nurse on its owners' one-month-old baby's toes, instead chewed them off. According to the police, the incident happened when the child's parents were allegedly asleep while the baby was in an infant seat beside them. Mary Shannon Hansche, 22, and Christopher Wayne Hansche, 26, told police they woke up to the sound of the baby crying, found her mangled foot and took her to the hospital about 8:30 am. Sunday. "They did not see the dog injuring the child," police spokesman Mark Natale told the AP.

A driver, panicked to be stopped at a police DUI checkpoint, fed a puppy his crack cocaine. However, police got wise to the situation, and according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Dr. Steven Smolen, a veterinarian at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Shaler, who was on duty when the puppy was brought in, said the puppy is "doing very well. "

A woman charged with assualting a dog breeder with a dead Chihuahua puppy was adjudged guilty of misdemeanor assault and trespassing. Lisa Hopfer, 34, could be sentenced to up to 18 months in jail and charged a $1,500 fine. Trial evidence included X-rays and pictures of the dead dog, and testimony from dog breeder, Linda Hulsey.
