A Qatari national has received a $4.3 million offer to buy his 400-year-old copy of the Holy Koran.

Saeed Ali Al Suwaidi, who got the rare handwritten book from a Yemeni Islamic scholar in Makkah, Saudi Arabia last Ramadan, said the offer came from among the Saudi, Kuwaiti and Emirati prospective buyers who approached him.

But Suwaidi said he will sell the rare book and part with it if he gets a good deal.

According to Suwaidi, the scholar who gave him the book for safekeeping said Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Qassem Al Aqwa wrote the Koran for five years. The book was completed in 1034 Hijri, the Islamic calendar.

Suwaidi described the book as having thick and shiny paper, which has long life. It also has some footnotes interpreting Quranic verses.
