Stuart Florida attorney Willie Gary and a local hip-hop/R&B radio station sponsored a free gas giveaway Wednesday that attracted 3,000 people and ended in at least four traffic accidents and one arrest.

Gary and local radio station X102.3 made the offer of free gas to the first 102 listeners who made it to a Wal-Mart gas station in Fort Pierce to tank up.

But the offer attracted a stampede of motorists that snarled traffic and triggered tempers after the quota of free gas was gone.

One man was arrested for hitting a woman in the back of the head and also for hitting police officers.
