For the second time in less than a month, a 1-year-old red panda was discovered missing from her exhibit in Virginia's Zoo Saturday. Earlier in June 21, Yin went missing on the day of her first appearance for two hours until she emerged from a nearby tree.
Yin, that resembles a raccoon with red, white and black fur, was first discovered near the bison exhibit, until she dashed to a tree near the back of the duck pond. She also was found hiding in a tree near the duck pond after she escaped the first time.
AP quotes Alison Till, the zoo's director of development as saying, "She's a character."
To prevent her to escape for yet another time, the zoo officials have lowered the ground level around the exhibit's perimeter and put mild electrified wire around her habitat after the first escape.
The officials at the zoo are still figuring out how the panda escaped from her habitat and what further steps can be taken to fix the problem.
