A recent fake Web site in Belgium has been highly criticized by women over its claim to offer nearly 10,000 women for rent as temporary wives.
Created by a DVD firm as part of a humorous campaign, the controversial Internet site offers visitors the opportunity to choose from various women. According to local newspapers, more than 9000 models who offer themselves as rental wives to their temporary husbands. The Institute for Equality between Men and Women in Belgium has also gone so far as asking that the promotion be withdrawn immediately.
However, a recent poll by a regional newspaper revealed that nearly 40 percent of respondents considered it an "original" concept while 53 percent said it should be banned.
