A soldier returned home from Iraq without injury but as he was walking to his grandmother's home he was struck by a car. Then a second car hit him and dragged him a half-mile.

Andrew Rippe, 25, is still in serious condition. Police said it is amazing he is still alive.

Roslyn Gottlieb, the driver of the second car, said she thought she had hit a piece of cardboard and kept driving to a convenience store about a half-mile down the road. When she checked under her car her passenger said it looked like a dummy but she realized it was a person.

She said, "My friend thought it was a dummy, but I said, 'That's a real person. The man is still breathing.'"

When Rippe was freed from the car rescuers found he had suffered a broken leg and lost skin. He was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center where he remained in serious condition on Monday. His family requested that no further statements on his condition be released.

No charges have been filed against either driver but police are still investigating.
