A professor of philosophy and a professor of criminology, enacting Canadian human rights and medical marijuana legislation, were granted the right to smoke the green plant in specially ventilated rooms near their offices this week. According to a report by Reuters, both professors suffer from chronic medical conditions and their doctors say smoking pot can alleviate some of the physical symptoms of pain. Each professor was able to convince their academic employers that they must have the right to smoke on campus as opposed to their previous arrangements to make trips just off university grounds to partake.

Camel breeders in the Indian state of Rajasthan have found an alternative way to tackle the declining fortunes from tourism. Citing the low-calorie content in the milk from the desert animal, a non-government organization has launched a project under which camel's milk is marketed to hotels and tourists visiting historic palaces and desert towns. The Food and Agriculture Organization says camel milk has vitamin C content three times higher than cow's milk. It is also rich in iron, unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin B.

A zoo is planning to show "porn" videos for its six-year-old male panda to encourage breeding in captivity. A pair of pandas have been innocently living together at the zoo in the northern city of Chiang Mai since arriving from China in 2003 "They don't know how to mate so we need to show the male how, through videos," panda project chief Prasertsak Buntrakoonpoontawee told Reuters.

A Scottish island with a population of just 15 residents has placed an ad to recruit two new families to take up residency there. The loneliest schoolgirl in Britain, nine-year-old Caroline MacKinnon, hopes a family with children will be chosen, as being the sole student in the island of Canna's schoolhouse is not much fun.
