Chinese airlines are buying planes with larger seats to accommodate an increasing number of passengers who are overweight. A China Eastern Airlines employee said the carrier imported its planes from the West, where the population is generally larger. Even so, the company will cut out 20 seats on the new Airbus 321 to make the seating space wider.

A lawyer in Germany says he is looking for clients who have been abducted by aliens. Jens Lorek, an attorney in Dresden, says "there's quite obviously demand for legal advice here. . . The trouble is, people are afraid of making fools of themselves in court. "

Picture-takers were busy clicking away at girls in miniskirts next to the giant flat-screen TVs and fancy mobile phones at Japan's biggest technology trade show on Friday. Wataru Tatebayashi, 35, was one of those fans at the site, aiming his camera at the women lined up in front of the gadgets, waving at visitors.

A political party formed by Dutch pedophiles in May wants to run in the national elections next month, but the party's secretary, Norbert de Jonge, says he doubts the Brotherly Love, Freedom and Diversity party (PNVD) will be able to get enough support. The PNVD says it wants to lift the taboo on pedophilia, and says it is in favor of lowering the age of consent from 16 to 12 and legalizing child pornography and bestiality.

Indonesian police have cordoned off a banyan tree after a Muslim youth group attacked the tree to challenge its alleged mystical powers. Reuters quotes Susi Marsitawati, of Jakarta's park agency, as saying that, "The city government tried hard not to cut the tree when we built a bus lane. It is more than 100 years old and it is important for the environment. "
