A small robot has scaled a 1,739-foot-high cliff of the Grand Canyon in a demonstration of the power of the world's longest-lasting battery.
Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.'s 6.69-inch Evolta, which bears the same name as the Panasonic brand AA alkaline battery it used, climbed the cliff on Saturday in six hours and 46 minutes. The robot, which is made of plastic and carbon, used its hands and legs to pull itself up a rope.
The demonstration aimed to promote the Evolta AA battery, which the Japanese firm started selling in April.
The Guiness Book of World Records recognized the Evolta as the longest-lasting battery in January after it passed discharge tests conducted in accordance with the guidelines set by the International Electrotechnical Commission.
