City officials in Roswell, New Mexico want to build a UFO-themed amusement park. Called Alien Apex Resort, the park would feature an indoor roller coaster that would take passengers on their very own alien abduction.
At 60 to 80 acres, the park would also have rides and attractions, including an exhibit hall with information on exploring the universe.
Estimated to cost several hundred million dollars, the park has a tentative opening date of 2010. The city has received $245,000 legislative funding for the park's planning so far. The park would be privately run.
The city already has several alien-themed businesses in town, including the International UFO Museum and Research center, which draws about 2.5 million visitors a year. The city also holds an annual UFO festival in the summer.
