A runway wrecking ball caused severe damage, smashing more than a dozen cars when it broke free from a crane and rolled down a hill, finally coming to a rest as it lodged itself in the trunk of a stopped car.
The three foot wide wrecking ball was being used to demolish part of the library of Allegheny College. A crane operator tried to stop the ball, but failed as it bounced from curb to curb, smashing cars and injuring three along the way.
The wrecking ball came to rest when it hit a vehicle stopped at an intersection, sparking a chain reaction that damaged two more vehicles.
