Stalin-era Hawaiian-styled surf songs, mixed by a Russian DJ are taking over the airways in Eastern Europe, with also thousands of copies flying off the store shelves as well. Gulag Tunes, created by Mikhail Antipov, is a collection of Stalin-era prison songs mixed with Hawaiian surf music, with the cover album showing Stalin draped in a Hawaiian-style garland of skulls.

Two of German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn's most die hard fans, Akram Marufshonow and Musadshon Chornidow, cycled over 4,000 miles from their home country of Uzbekistan to Germany in order to get an autograph by the German star. Kahn, who was voted MVP at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, was amazed to hear of the young fans' cross-continent journey in order to meet him and agreed to meet them in Berlin.

According to Russian police an offended motorist who held the hand of a traffic police officer through his window, and drove off for five yards will face criminal charges in court. The police spokesman told Reuters, "The officer's injuries were not too bad but he is still on sick leave. " The accused has dismissed the accusation and told a Russian paper that he was the victim of a set up by a rival businessman who has police connections.

Russian Sentenced Nearly Four Years For Beating Cats

A Russian court sentenced a 25-year-old for three years and nine months in prison for beating a cat to death in front of a number of children, the ITAR-TASS news agency said on Thursday. According to a report by AFP, the court heard that Nikolai Pavlenko, snatched a cat from the courtyard of an apartment block and then smashed its ahead against some steps, killing the animal, ITAR-TASS said citing local prosecutors.
