It was a sad farewell for the elephant who was believed to be one of the world's oldest African elephants. Officials at the Milwaukee County Zoo euthanized Lucy the elephant Friday morning. Zoo staffers found Lucy lying down in her stall. The 46-year-old elephant became ill in June and had been unable to stand up before in the African exhibit yard. A crane had been brought in to help her up in the past.

Thieves went to a Greenwood Church and stole almost nothing except the kitchen sink. According to church authorities, the restaurant-style, stainless steel basin was left outside during renovations to give painters room to work. Rev. Wilbert Simpson of the Calvary Grove Baptist Church told The Index-Journal, "It's sad to think . . . that someone would come on God's grounds to steal something. "

Lacey Washut's prized pig fetched a hefty price during an auction in the Central Wyoming Fair. C & Y Transportation bid $200 per pound for the 255-pound pig resulting to a record $51,000. According to Washut's mother, Chaynee, the company failed to realize its huge bid and renegotiating with 4-H officials to lower the price.

Sudha Tiwari, a social worker with NGO, told IANS, "Every years 6. 7 million abortions take place in India but the sad part is that 5. 7 million are illegal. The place and technique used in most of the illegal cases are unsafe and unhygienic.
