A sculptor in England has been so humiliated after his latest opus intended to depict Saddam Hussein's wife had been mistaken for trash.

Graham Hudson contemporary sculpture, a collage of oil drum, cable wheels, cardboard boxes, paint and adhesive tape is fast becoming a subject of ridicule among passers-by in Holland Park who have mistaken the work of art for rubbish.

The sculpture of Sajida Talfah occupies the same spot with that of other of contemporary sculptures in Holland Park's Napoleon Garden.

"It's a beautiful spot named after the most successful fascist dictator in history. So we've got fascism and leisure, what a great combination!" Hudson reportedly said.

However, passer-bys are apparently unimpressed.

Some people were incredulous that the objects were a statue while others said that only the young could appreciate it. One observer likened it to a poorly wrapped package stuck in the middle of a garden and lamented that it wasn't their "idea of art."

The council paid $4,000 for the artwork.
