A movie theater in Salt Lake City abruptly pulled the movie, "Brokeback Mountain" from its schedule Friday.
The Megaplex at Jordan Commons, which is owned by Utah Jazz owner Larry Miller, posted a message at the ticket window reading: "There has been a change in booking and we will not be showing 'Brokeback Mountain.' We apologize for any inconvenience."
"Brokeback Mountain" has stirred a large pot of controversy since it opened. It spans the story of two cowboys, played by Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, who fall in love, marry women and rekindle their relationship several times throughout the course of their lives. It has received critical acclaim and Heath Ledger has been nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his role in the movie.
According to the Associated Press, Focus Features, who is distributing the film, said that just before "Brokeback Mountain" was to open at the Megaplex theater, management "reneged on their licensing agreement" and refused to open the movie.
Theater management declined to comment.
