Authorities say that a couple's claim to have had sextuplets was a hoax aimed at tapping the generosity of others to pay the couple's mounting bills. Sarah, 45, and Kris, 33 claimed to have given birth to four boys and two girls on March 8. The babies were apparently in intensive care.

A woman is trying to find the person who bought an eagle statuette at her daughter's moving sale. That's because her son-in-law's ashes are in it. The eagle wasn't supposed to be sold, but Sarah Volpe's daughter, Jane Hanlon, had left it on her fireplace mantle with some of the items she was selling. Hanlon says she doesn't blame her mother. She says it was her own fault she left it out.

A writer who penned semi-autobiographical books where he claimed to be a 25-year-old male prostitute and drug addict is actually a woman. JT LeRoy gained a number of fans after writing about growing up as a child hustler who was HIV-positive. But LeRoy is really Laura Albert, a 40-year-old woman, reports Ireland On-Line.

A Wal-Mart manager was fired after calling the law on a black businessman suspected of trying to pass a bad check, store representative said Tuesday. Manager Mark Cornett called sheriff's deputies after Reginald Pitts, 34, tried to pay for holiday gift cards for his company's employees with a $13,000 check.

Pete Doherty, boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss, who recently has made headlines after she was photographed snorting cocaine, has been arrested in Shrewsbury, England for drug possession. The Babyshambles lead singer was in town for a concert. A spokesman for West Mercia Police says: "In the early hours of this morning officers stopped a mini bus in Shrewsbury town center and detained a number of people for the purposes of a drugs search.
