The man known as as the "Sausage King" for his execution-style murders of three meat inspectors was found dead in his cell at San Quentin prison Tuesday morning.

A corrections officer found Stuart Alexander, 44, lying in his cell. He was taken to the prison infirmary where attempts to revive him failed, reports The Oakland Tribune.

"There is no foul play suspected in his death," said prison spokesman Sgt. Eric Messick. "There's nothing to suggest that it was a suicide at this time. It appears that the cause of death is natural at this point."

Alexander was convicted in 2004 of three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder for shooting and killing three meat inspectors at his family-owned San Leandro sausage plant.

Alameda County Superior Court Judge Vernon Nakahara sentenced Alexander to death for his crimes.
