A 15-year-old from Uplawmoor, Scotland is embarking on a world record attempt to become the youngest boy to walk to the Earth's northernmost point. Jordan Maguire is setting off on an epic journey to the North Pole on Monday making his way across the North Sea to Norway, then to northern Russia, where he will start his 10-day trek.

A Jamaican sled-dog racer who has never seen snow is ready to take part in Europe's biggest huskry racing event. The 42-year-old and his four-dog team will compete against 220 other teams and more than 1,000 dogs this weekend. He eventually hopes to compete in the world championships and the Winter Olympics in 2010. Devon Anderson and his four-dog team, dubbed "welfare dogs," will compete against 220 other teams and more than 1,000 dogs beginning Saturday at Aviemore, Scotland. His efforts are reminiscent of the success of the Jamaican bobsled team, which took part in the 1988 Games in Calgary and provided the inspiration for the 1993 film "Cool Runnings. "

A new study proves that social and economic circumstances do not explain why twins have significantly lower IQ in childhood than single-born children. Scientists studied 9,832 single-born children and 236 twins born in Scotland between using a previous child development survey as a base.

A new British survey indicates, Big Macs are plentiful where the increasingly obese poor live. Researchers discovered that for England and Scotland there is a strong correlation between neighborhood deprivation and the presence of Mickey D's restaurants, but obesity is not connected to the fast food chain or any others.
